The FESTA EUROPEA DELLA MUSICA, launched in 1982 in France ("Fête européenne de la Musique"), is a free live music celebration of the summer solstice held every 21st June in many European cities and worldwide. The festival is open to all musical genres and national traditions.

In Rome, the Festa Europea della Musica has arrived at its 13th annual, counting on consolidated collaborations with different operators of the musical field on the local, national and international level. Paying attention on new tendencies of musical panorama, today Festa Europea della Musica aims to develop the network, promote inedited and original projects, involve audience in more interactive way.

Whereas, in the first year of the festival less than 100 concerts were counted, in 2006 the Festa Europea della Musica organized over 200 concerts of more than 1000 artists, some of them performing in the most picturesque places of the city.

One of the Festa’s principles is to valorize historical, artistic and environmental richness of the city which on this occasion offers to audience a variety of indoor and outdoor locations, some of these not traditionally dedicated to music:
Piazza del Campidoglio, Piazza Venezia, Piazza Risorgimento, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza del Popolo, Campo dei Fiori, Terrazza del Pincio, Via dei Fori Imperiali, Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, Pantheon, Palazzo Antici Mattei, Villa Medici, Palazzo Braschi, Palazzo Barberini, Accademia di Spagna al Gianicolo, Galleria Colonna, Museo degli strumenti Musicali and many others.

Moreover, the spirit of the Festa brings music to many popular quarters out of traffic, villa, gardens, venues, bars and various places in historical centre and periphery where people usually meet with friends.
The celebration is open to individuals or ensembles and musical institutions to give both amateurs and professionals the opportunity to express their musical talent. On this purpose, the Festa Europea della Musica in Rome invites to perform both famous artists – from the previous years we remember Uto Ughi, Luis Bakalov, Orchestra Sinfonica dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Renato Zero, Laura Pausini, Fiorello, Gianni Morandi, Ornella Vanoni, Patty Pravo, Anna Oxa, Giorgia, Angelo Branduardi, Carmen Consoli, Orchestre National De Jazz, Bill Smith, Billy Cobham, Karl Potter, Tenores di Bitti, Iannis Xenakis and many others – and young creative people which are given the opportunity to experience unusual places, challenging contexts and huge passionate and curious audience.
